Dearest Patricia:
In checking my commitments it looks as if I should perhaps go to Portland tomorrow & stay through the 14th – if I can get a plane. I’m blocked the following Saturday (the 19th). I might go the period from February 24 through the 27 as I have no commitment in that period. I’ll have to wait till the travel agency opens in the morning to find out. I suspect that the sooner I go the more good I may be able to do or the sooner I can resolve the problem & get it off my back.
With a Tuesday evening class, you’ll be busy on the 15th but if I come back that day we can agree on a time for dinner the next day which is Wednesday. Tuesday evening March 1 I’ve promised to have dinner with Max and Mabel Bass Crittenden and have a final discussion on Mabel’s book on Western Wild Flowers. In any case it looks as if I’ll be limited to 4 days unless I wait until the middle of March, which I don’t want to do.
I’ll leave a note for you to let you know if I can get away tomorrow (possibly in the evening). If I can’t, then I’ll have a week to get ready. I’d like to get the whole thing over as soon as I can.
Tonight was another grand evening with you – marred only by your distress. Fortunately that had lessened considerably by the time we started home.
You looked like a million dollars in you beautiful black suit. I’m so glad we found it and that it fits so beautifully. I never get over the marvel of you as a person and a personality! Ere long I’ll be trying to tell you in some new & different way. I enjoy nothing so much except just the joy of being with you and doing something for you.
After I left you tonight, I stopped briefly at my apartment & then went over to the Science Building to initial the copies of my letter memo for the Personnel Committee tomorrow morning. Bill Kenyon, the boy in question will pick them up & take them to the Committee. When I got back to my apt. I noted with satisfaction that your lights were out so presumably got to bed with a minimum of delay. Have a good day tomorrow & recover fully before next Wed.
Love - Carl
