Not a creature is stirring;
Not even a mouse!
Dearest Patricia:
Writing you again may be vain gesture, but I shall try it anyway. Yesterday I sent a letter to Doris and all the family. They should get it tomorrow by special delivery. Hope you get this one by Monday.
I got my airline ticket rearranged with no difficulty. I’ll get to S.F. on T.W.A. flight No 13, that leaves Chicago at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday gets to San Francisco at 9:07 P.M. Evidently it is faster than the United Airlines flight this way by about 14 minutes (but 7(?) minutes slower than the U.A. flight westward.) It will certainly be good to see you again, though there is never a dull moment here.
Carrie is animated as ever and all smiles most of the time. She tries hard to tell me everything that is going but her enunciation still leaves much to be desired. I’m getting to where I can understand much of what she says but it still helps to have her Dad or Mom around to put into good English when it isn’t entirely clear and sometimes they aren’t sure.
The weather continues to be beautiful spring weather, but the prediction is slightly warmer tomorrow (upper instead of lower 70s and there may be rain.)
This afternoon I helped (in a moderate way) Dave to put together a new & somewhat elaborate swing ($50.00) which he and Sandra had decided to invest in for Carrie and her small friends. She has quite a few friends who tend to take her away from home but with the new (& multiple) swing (A Sears product) she’ll stay home and they’ll be coming here. Sears makes several of these swings of varying degrees of complexity. It might be desirable to invest in one for the boys, (a smaller, less complex one) though just what it would displace in Doris’s backyard I’m not sure.
I hear lots of bird notes I can’t place, though I know the song of the cardinal. The blackbird that is here has a rougher, coarser voice than our Calif. kinds, but there are other birds I can’t even guess at from the songs – or even from the birds. Haven’t been out to any of the parks yet, though this county (Brown Co.) has some beautiful ones. Will get out tomorrow or Monday.
I brought 3 pictures of you along. Dave & Sandra are pleased to see them & learn more about you as a person. Will close now & try this on air mail special delivery.
Love – Carl.
