Dearest Patricia:
A few bits of pertinent info that we might consider briefly tomorrow (Friday) if we can find time. It can be early if you want - otherwise it will have to be between your last class (2:30?) and the foreign students meeting at 3:30 in Eng. 2:36 or, I suppose it could be after their meeting and before the open-ended forum that I think I’ll attend.
I enclose a sheet with the best data I can glean on motels - coast and inland, for which we should try to pick one and make reservations for the April 2-9 week. On one side I’ve listed all the coastal locations that seem to be available - and on the reverse - all of the inland locations. It looks as if, in general in S. California the small places don’t have motels. However, a good motel at a medium sized town will offer just about as much quiet and privacy. I know that most of the places in the San Diego complex are isolated enough (or were a few years ago when Neva and I were there) to be quite attractive. And the S. California beaches are mostly good beaches. So a little discussion by telephone, if we can agree fairly well on where exactly we’d like to go should make it possible to work out a good arrangement. Costs don’t vary enough generally to make much difference. And I think most places are close enough to an airport that the required driving will not be great. By taking it slow and easily, this should present no problem.
Perhaps tomorrow we could take an initial look at the list, the maps, and the information book and then early next week come to at least a tentative conclusion on which I could begin negotiations. Some of the places not far away (as Pacific Grove) might be good except that getting enough sunshine might be too much of a gamble, it would be easy - and lots of fun to go all the way to the San Diego area.
It would help if you could phone me in the A.M. before you go to class or the library. You could have breakfast if you want, but I’ll leave that up to you.
Anyway - here’s a start.
Bucky fuller made a slow start this evening as if he were having trouble getting his thinking under way - then he picked up and got better steadily while he talked for two hours, finishing about 10:00. Sweet dreams - love - Carl.
