Description |
A portrait of a large Japanese funeral procession traveling down one of the small streets that line Oak Hill Cemetery. To the far left, a hearse for Curry, Gripenstraw, & Darling sits in the middle of the street. To the immediate right of the hearse stand two Buddhist priests and probably the immediate family of the deceased. Further right and to the end of the photograph, a train of automobiles and funeral attendees line the street. In the center of the image, a elderly man stares squarely at the camera and brings his left hand slightly out, holding a set of beads or a necklace. |
Note |
Written on recto: "Oak Hill Cemetary Photo J.C. Gordon April 23, 1926." The original container indicates nature of this gathering as a "Japanese Funeral." |
