Dearest Patricia:
As you probably will have learned from your mom before you get this note, I went with your whole family (except you and Kay) today for lunch in Chinatown. We ate at a place called Bill’s on Jackson, just off Sixth, had an excellent lunch and a marvelous time with lots and lots of fun. Actually I met them there following a phone call by your mom.
A lot of things got done these last two days, including some planning that we hope will be acceptable to you. as you know, Tuesday is Nobie’s birthday and your mom wants to do something to formally recognize it. The hope is that you will not have committed yourself irrevocably elsewhere and that I can take you out - for the early evening, at least and we can have some kind of a party. I’ll get Nobie some kind of a present tomorrow (Monday) and a birthday card. That will be my part of it.
I’ll not take the “new” celery juice to your mom till Tuesday both to save her some time and because she wants to spare me some extra effort.
Saturday I got the information on water softening equipment but if it isn’t convenient to discuss it briefly with her on Tuesday I’ll go out again later in the week. Looks as if the best solution will be just to contract for a rental service which will come to about #5.50 a month. To buy equipment outright would cost at least $400.00 and then I’d have to service it myself at whatever extra that costs. Probably it will be wise not to rush it in any case.
Also I finished going over the manuscript for Mabel Buss Crittenden’s book on Western Wild Flowers. There were lots of detailed corrections to make but Mabel has done a fine job and the book will be a valuable addition to resources for the elementary schools. It will permit 5th and 6th graders to learn how to identify wild flowers themselves and they’ll get a lot of individual satisfaction from that.
Tomorrow I’ll go to the faculty meeting in the Morris Dailey auditorium, even though it is called for 8:30 A.M. I’ll not stay up as long tonight as usual because I’ll have to wake up about 6:30.
There’s more to tell, but the rest will have to wait. It you want me to do anything for you, phone me tonight or early tomorrow. Love Carl.
