AUGUST 15 MARKS 32 YEARS OF CONTINUED BONDAGE, NOT INDEPENDENCE! THE CHAINS OF THIS SO-CALLED INDEPENDENCE MUST BE SMASHED! Statement of the Indian People's Defence Committee, New Delhi, August 5, 1979 The following statement is reprinted from Bulletin No. 6 of the Indian People's Defence Committee, New Delhi, released August 5, 1979. India's independence is a fraud played by the national traitors like Nehru and Gandhi and all their accomplices to continue the foreign imperialist subjugation and plunder of India under the disguise of "independence". It was a fraud to saddle the fighting people, who had made so many sacrifices to drive out the foreign oppressors, with a "national government" oriented towards enriching the big capitalists and big landlords who had all along collaborated with the British colonizers, a "national government" which would ensure the profits of the British colonizers as well as any other foreign power which is interested in plundering India. The rule of these national traitors who sell the interests of the workers, peasants and other toiling people of India for a few dollars and roubles, the rule of those who crush and slaughter us every day, has to be overthrown by force of arms in order that the Indian people can enjoy genuine independence and democracy, in order that we can be masters of our own destiny and march towards genuine social progress. The present political crisis in which the reactionary-revisionist politicians have fully proved their incapability to solve the problems of the people, but are viciously engaged in grabbing seats of power, shows with great clarity theutter reactionariness and fraudulent nature of the "parliamentary democracy". It shows that the slogan of a "better government" that is more yielding to the demands of the people is a deceptive and treacherous slogan to keep the people's attention engaged towards the parliament while the merciless exploitation and oppression continues without let-up. It shows that for the common people to enjoy genuine independence and democracy, the immediate issue before us is the violent overthrow of the political power of the big capitalists and big landlords who facilitate foreign imperialist plunder of the: land and labour of the Indian people, and profit from this subjugation of our nation. An "independence" to profit the national traitors and foreign imperialists and ruthlessly crush the people The hangmen of Bhagat Singh, the Nehrus and Gandhis, collaborated with the British colonizers to defraud the rebellious Indian people with a phony "independence" in August 1947. fallowing on the heels of a massive slaughter of the people in the name of "communal riots", this phony "independence" was organized to prevent the heroic Indian people, who were up in arms in great numbers to throw out the foreignimperialists, from really driving out the British colonizers. This "independence" was a fraud to allow the British imperialist's to continue the rape and plunder of the land and labour of the Indian people by installing traitors like the Nehrus and Gandhis in power. With this phony "independence", none of the laws of the land were changed, none of the British property and investments looted from the Indian people was confiscated, none of the traitors who collaborated with the British colonizers were hung. On the contrary, the same judges and jailors, hangmen and swindlers, took power in the name of "independence". It was an arrangement for all the inveterate enemies of the Indian people — the big capitalists like theTatas-and Birlas who grew up under the care of British capital and technology, the big landlords and moneylenders who crushed the peasant revolts with the use of the British colonial armies, the political swindlers and false patriots like the Nehrus and Gandhis and the officialdom that sincerely collaborated with the British in suppressing the Indian people — to reap profit for themselves. While it was the blood of the workers, peasants and other toiling people that flowed on the streets and fields during the struggle to drive out the British colonizers, it was these national traitors who confiscated the fruits. Today, after going through 32 years of this fraud, when the most sincere followers of the national traitors like the Nehrus and Gandhis have been repressing and crushing us for the sake of the profits of a handful of Indian traitors and the foreign imperialists, we are reminded of what Shaheed Bhagat Singh said before bravely facing up to the gallows of the British colonizers: "India's struggleshall continue as long as a handful of men in power continue to exploit the labour of the common people for their own ends. Whether the exploiters are Indian or British, or both in alliance, nothing shall halt the struggle. . ." Who has gained by this so-called "independence" in 1947? In the last 32 years, the condition of the vast majority of the people has greatly deteriorated while a handful of rich in India and their foreign allies have made huge profits by ruthlessly exploiting the people and robbing the natural wealth of our country.
