Bloomfield May 20th 1841 Worthy Friend Your favor of March 31st is now before me which I would have answered sooner but for your business of the Probate Court which has just closed. I could make our collections as yet (save $15.00 from Hiram Jones estate. The $15.00 I will add to the $28.00 coming from our making $43.00 and place the same as a credit on your surplus. Revenue note [Dr?] review the balance [Dr]. Your favor of the 21st march is the only letter I have received from you and in that letter you gave an account of the sickness of your family and the melancholy news of the death of your little son. I am happy to learn from your letter that Ms Townsend is recovering her health and "I would to God" that your little son (John Alfred Cavius Townsend) had lived. The kind partiality which you mainfested for me in adding my name to his I can never forget. Mr Hart is in possesion of your Houses by an agreement between him and me that you and he will settle as to the amount of rent Dr. I gave in your taxable property. $550.00 low indeed. Mrs Hale is still living in one of your rooms by agreement with Mr. Hart. I think when Inman returns from below I can make some arrangement between him and Mark black. (that will be attended to). I cannot as yet get the wagon from James. The mjor is state in the Loco foko [?] ranks and does not manage for himself as well as he TFP-011b 12 8 12 [margin] might. I have as yet no opposition for the Clerks office of the district Court & Recorders office of said County. The last Legislature has taken the business of the Commissions Court separate and made an Auditors office of it. Providing that in Counties where less than 1250 polls are returned. Clerk shall be eligible for that office too. Mr Thompson our Whig Elector in this District was elected over Doctor Davis to Congress by a majority of between 600 & 700. Our State is Whig except Tests District. two whigs race and Kenedy are Abolition Locofoco of course the Lokia was elected in the strongest Whig Dist in the state. Our Whig delegation embraces the best talents in the state. of the six none are lep talented than Mr Thompson and you know him and [wilder?] me. Mrs Cavius is now sitting by me to tell you to say to Mrs Townsend that the [illegible] wishes her return to our Village and would rather see her than any other person living and indeed the people generally manifest a wish for your return here. The Honorable Judge Bradford is no more he died 5 weeks ago, of his old complaint. Col Falcows & John F. Ducall are Candidates for the Legislature. My [illegible] of my political campaign are now as when you left here and as yet answer the intended purposes Dr. Give my respects to Mrs. Townsend & Moses and for yourself accept the best wishes of your friend.
